Bruce Ritchie, is the former principal of Massey High School and a lifetime educationalist. During his 21 years at Massey, Bruce oversaw substantial changes at the school, leveraging multiple partnerships to create opportunities for Maori and Pacifica students. Among many other initatives, the Restorative Justice, Te Kotahitanga, Starpath programs were rolled out at Massey High School under Bruce's leadership to raise Maori achievement and increase university access for Maori, Pasifika, and low decile students. He also oversaw the creation of a bilingual unit at the school, was the president of the Auckland Secondary Schools Principal Association, and an integral part of founding the Teach First NZ programme.
For this work, he received the Queen’s Order of Merit earlier this year and is a previous recipient of two Woolf Fisher Fellowships among other awards.
