
Luis Enrique Garcia de Brigard is the Vice Minister of Education of Colombia and the co-founder of Enseña por Colombia. He is responsible for the operation of over 50,000 schools in the country and, has been focused in reforming the teaching profession, developing curriculum, creating effective measures of learning and promoting accountability.
Before joining the Ministry, Luis Enrique was an accomplished educational entrepreneur who started, managed and scaled educational companies across the Americas. His experience in the industry includes K-12, educational technologies, language training, after-school education, and educational travel. As an entrepreneur, he led a variety of growth strategies ranging from greenfield projects to mergers and acquisitions of well-established companies.
Luis Enrique is also a committed social entrepreneur and has advanced the cause of educational opportunity in his country by co-founding Enseña por Colombia and Volunteers Colombia (partner of Harvard University’s WorldTeach). These two organizations have led a national movement to improve the quality of education by bringing excellent teachers to schools in underprivileged communities.
Luis Enrique has served in numerous boards of educational organizations, including SOS Children’s Villages, the MIT-Harvard Club of Colombia and the Executive Committee of Empresarios por la Educación. He holds a Law degree from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and received his Master of Education from Harvard University.
