Richard is co-founder of Maths Pathway, and is working to change the way that mathematics (and eventually the entire curriculum) is taught. He grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, witnessing first-hand the divide between the haves and have-nots in society. Driven and ambitious, Richard completed a double degree in Software Engineering and Arts at the University of Melbourne, and took his problem-solving skills to a career in management consulting. Realising that his true passion lay in helping young people, Richard volunteered as a mentor for troubled youth and finally traded in his consultant job to become an Associate in the second cohort of Teach For Australia. Leveraging his obsession for process improvement and efficiency, Richard took the role of faculty head, and built a range of innovative tools to make his colleagues' lives easier. After a few years of teaching, he realised that the potential impact of Maths Pathway far outweighed anything he could do in a single classroom, and became the technical founder of the company. Maths Pathway now sees learning improvements of over 200%, serves more than 20,000 students in Australia, and has ambitious plans for growth in both impact and scale.
